The Southern Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club are sad to report that our President, Mrs Jane Bowdler (Ttiweh) has died. Jane was the daughter of Amice Pitt who is widely regarded as the founder of the breed. Among many other things Jane owned Ch Daywell Roger the first Cavalier Champion winning the very first CC for the breed in 1945.
The longer nosed dogs were renamed Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Only a few Cavaliers remained after World War I. Six dogs became the foundation of the modern breed. The American Kennel Club (AKC) recognised the Cavalier as a breed in 1996 in the United States. They quickly rose to be one of the more popular breeds. They are in the AKC Toy group.
Appearance of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Height at the withers: Males 30 - 33 cm Females 30 - 33 cm. Average Weight: Males 5.9 - 8.2 kg Females 5.9 - 8.2 kg. Larger than their King Charles cousins the Cavalier also boasts a longer less snubbed nose.
He racked up 15 BIS wins which, to this day, remains the record for the most BIS wins achieved by a Cavalier. He won BOB at the Westminster Kennel Club show in 2006 and 2010, and to cap it off he won the AKC Cavalier National Specialty in 2010 under judge Ms. Sandra Goose Allen.
