The service advisor is telling me that is every 10,000 mi. I come from owning a veloster turbo and I changed my oil every 3 to 5 thousand with full synthetic. 8000 miles for normal use, 5000 miles for severe use. 0w-20 for non-turbo engines, 0w-30 for turbo engines, full synthetic for both.

Interestingly, the diesel engine oil section for the Hyundai i30 only allows 0W30 up to 10 degrees C and 5W30 or 10W30 up to 40 degrees C ambient — the diesel engine must run a lot hotter than the petrol. generalcuster writes i will stick with penrite so looks like the 5w-30 or the 10w-40 both full synthetic. I forgot about that oil.
I actually prefer a timing belt over a chain. Usually easier to access and change. Stick to the intervals and your fine. timing chains are good don’t get me wrong if designed correctly. I used to be a mechanic before moving into engineering and I’ve seen first hand the results of premature chain failure.
